Writing: Fine Wine, Fast Cars, Wild Women!

GraffitiI'm not happy, not by a long shot. In fact I would go as far as to say that I am really agitated by life's events. You know, I just feel like saying “Stuff everybody”

I can't believe the pig headedness of some people who just should know better and yet they let their own petty foibles get in the way of a great life. Sure we all have stresses and strains but strength of character is diagnosed by these events. It's not even a matter of someone being caught with their guard down… why do we feel that we must have a guard up?

Now before you think I have lost my marbles and I'm just having a rave, let's have a look at what is happening around each and every one of us…

How many of us are truly happy. You know, really truly happy. That feeling when you get up in the morning and life is one box of fluffy ducks, perfect!

I am one of the lucky ones, or so I am told.

Yes, I live in a land where money is available, food is plenty, shelter is fantastic and there are plenty of people I can keep in touch with, if and when I choose…

But that’s not it is it? Sure I can buy things. I can have nice clothes, great music and fast cars. But time and time again, people with these things still end up depressed and alone. So, if that’s not it, what is going on?

The pressure we put on ourselves can be enormous, so much so that people will consider and actually do, take their own life… and for what? For most of us, nothing ever really turns out as bad as we imagine and yet although we know this, we still go around imagining the worst. Think about that for a moment…

Here we are, all of us, with life learnt facts like that, and we still would rather dream up worse scenarios and think that they will happen. It’s madness.

So where am I heading with this?

I don’t know… It just seems to me, that we are becoming so self obsessed with material things that we aren’t able to decipher the true things that make us happy. I lost a couple a great friends a couple of weeks ago in an event we can all put down to stubbiness. Yet I was happy beforehand and I am less than that now. How dumb is that?

You see, the majority of us all fail to look at the facts, fail to observe the bloody obvious, even when it is right in front of our faces. We just would rather “think” other things than look at the real picture. Our mind plays games with our rationality. You know, we add bits into it like… “That’s what he is saying but what does he mean?”

Or there’s a failure to put up the whole picture. We see someone with a brand new car and we think… “Wow, they are doing well for themselves” …We don’t know that! It’s just an assumption and a comparison to where we feel we are at. The fact is that he’s just increased the size of his mortgage and now he really is living beyond his means. That’s the real story, but in our heads, we have a different one running.

We get turned on by flash advertisements all designed to make us want, yet there is not one ad to tell us about how we can design a happy existence, its not advertised because it doesn’t thrill. Here we are looking for the thrill of life, that adrenaline pumping existence of bronzed bodies, beaches and bikini clad babes (whoops, that’s my dream, not yours hehe)

But in these 30 second spots they cleverly manage to portray unhappiness before you purchase and happiness after. Well folks, I’m here to tell you that is a crock of pig slop. There is nothing wrong with getting a new car, clothes, house, or whatever but please differentiate between this and happiness.

I even looked up what the dictionary had to say about it

Happiness
1: state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy
2: emotions experienced when in a state of well-being

Wow… Contentment! Well being! Where are the fine wines, fast cars, wild women? No wonder I aren’t happy, I’ve been chasing the wrong dream.

Don’t put the wrong spin on things. If your life sucks, say so (not to all in sundry just get a fix on where things are at)

A truthful account without any spin on it, can lead to some dramatic steps towards happiness. It’s the spin that throws us off this happiness trail. So become a person with truthful intentions and clear messages. Don’t overplay your status or underplay it either. Where you sit right now is important to everything you do, and to those around you. You have to be honest enough to identify where you actually sit, not in some far fetched ideology but in yourself, right here, right now!
